Babuna Waterfall
If you’re the type who always chooses hikes with a destination that’s the cherry on top, then this trail is for you.Waterfalls are one of nature's many treasures that leave us breathless. They attract so much attention that our stay in nature always ends up being longer than planned💦⛰️.
The Babuna Waterfall is no exception, and you’ll often hear it described as the most beautiful waterfall in Macedonia. Here are some details that will be useful if you’re up for an adventure.
It’s located in Central Macedonia, on Mount JakupitsaIf you intend to visit, you should head towards the village of Bogomila, pass by the old stone bridge, and through the village, follow the signs that lead to the fish farm in Nezhilovo (the fish farm is to the left, and the village is to the right at the last fork in the road).
The paved road ends at the fish farm, where you can leave your vehicle and continue on foot along the wide path. If you have an off-road vehicle, you can switch to off-road driving
After about 30 minutes of driving (or approximately 2-2.5 hours of walking), you’ll come across a wooden signpost for the waterfall, behind which a narrow trail continues through the dense forest.
The hiking trail is marked and leads you to the source of the Babuna River, the cave, or the famous waterfall. To reach the final destination (from the signpost to the waterfall), plan for another 50-60 minutes of walking In some parts of the trail, wooden steps have been installed to ease the steep terrain, along with a safety cable.
Although the forest trail is short, you’ll still need appropriate gear for the weather conditions, high nature boots (if you don’t have any, regular snow/rain boots will do), and layered clothing, as the temperature in the forest and near the waterfall is significantly lower. If you’re a fan of cold water, make sure to bring a swimsuit because here you’ll experience a refreshing dip straight out of a dream!
Note: In certain places, the trail is narrow and slipperyso we recommend going with someone who is physically more capable than you (if you’re not) If you’re bringing younger children, make sure to supervise them during the hike and bring appropriate gear for them as well.
If you have time left, return to the wide path (at the signpost) and continue upward to Cheples (less than 1 hour on foot or 10 minutes driving). Take this moment to pull out the snacks you prepared the day before! Good company is never out of place at such a location
See you in the mountains,
Ana and Mane
